Vulane Mthembu

Vulane Mthembu is an award-winning musician, co-founder of BIG FKN GUN, a remixer and producer for the likes of Moonchild Sanelly, Spoek Mathambo, Busiswa Gqulu, MXO, Zu and Helsinki Headnod Convention; a photographer; DJ; and Open Data advocate – and his latest horizon is an experiment in how technology and art are the new creative frontier.

His piece for Drone Day references the shared heritage and languages of the Nguni people, by experimenting with heavily processed sustained ululation vocal sounds (themselves lending to drone aesthetics when manipulated in this way) integrated with traditional western drone music.
